It shows you how many people are actively searching for that particular term, and with that information, you can make an educated decision to either pursue promotion for that keyword or choose another.
Knowing a keyword’s search volume is one of those things that’s valuable for many fields on the internet, not just SEO. Of course, it’s also relevant for every search engine and not just Google.
So, if you’re doing any sort of SEO or marketing on search engines (not just Google!), or if you’re a video marketer on YouTube, or you sell your products on Amazon, then this article will be a very beneficial read!
We are going to show you how to see the search volume of practically any keyword on all the major search engines that we track (Google, Bing, Amazon, YouTube).

Google monthly search volume
For anyone doing SEO or SEM for Google before 2016, you might remember that search volume was freely available to AdWords users. That was until Google pulled the plug on that feature and made it only available for high-paying AdWord users. That threw a monkey wrench into the gears of pure SEO experts (who didn’t use paid ads) as well as “low-paying” AdWords users. Both of these groups still needed to know their search volume. The ‘global’ column will display the worldwide search volume of the keyword you’re tracking, relevant to the search engine.
The importance of local country-level Google monthly search volume
The next important thing to know about Google’s search volume is that other than the global search volume that we discussed above, it’s also important to know that each country has its own unique monthly search volume—which in many cases is more relevant than just the global search volume. We’ll explain:
For example, a certain search term can have a million monthly searches worldwide, which is certainly great at first glance, but the search volume in France might be only 10,000 searches, which paints an entirely different picture. Not only that, but perhaps the bulk of the searches come from Germany and not the US, which will present a far more accurate and interesting fact about the value of that search term. You can reveal that much more insight from knowing local country-level search volume vs. knowing that global one-million number.
If your target audience is in France, and all your SEO and SEM marketing efforts are targeted at France, then you would mostly be concerned about that 10k figure and plan accordingly.
Also, you’ll be pleased to know that you’ll be able to see the search volume for keywords that are in ANY language, and not just English.

So, how do you see the local search volume? Simple—just add a term for tracking on a local level for a specific country as you normally would. Next, the search volume for that country will simply be displayed in the “local” data column in our data table:

Bing monthly search volume
Some of you might be wondering if Bing matters. Well, it does, and far more than people think! First of all, give the next article a read to see just why Bing is doing far better than some mistakenly think:

If you’re not yet targeting Bing, you might be missing out on some awesome benefits that you might not be aware of (all discussed in the article above).
Search volume on Bing is not widely discussed in SEO communities, and it’s not as common to find statistics regarding their search volume, making it somewhat of a rare SEO Pokemon to capture.
The search volume that you will see for Bing might be modest compared to Google, but if you can take a nice chunk from that small pie it can be a nice bonus of extra visitors per month (you can try for yourself for various keywords and see).
In order to see your global and local Bing search volume, simply add a term to be tracked for Bing as you normally would, and the search volume will show up in the “global” column in the data table:

Since Bing also has local country-level personalization going for it, you’ll be able to accurately track all of Bing’s local sites. But note that local search volume for an area other than the ones above will show you the US search volume. For example: If you are tracking Bing AU, the “local” column will still show the US search volume.
Amazon monthly search volume
The biggest e-commerce search engine in the world, which far surpasses Google in e-commerce-specific searches.
Anyone selling and marketing their products on Amazon will benefit from knowing just how many people search for that product type each month.
Amazon searches come in many forms, and knowing the search volume of products can also give you additional insights in regard to growth in popularity of the product type and the product itself.
For example, the monthly search volume of the keyword “fidget spinners” skyrocketed on Amazon the moment that viral boom happened. Not only that, but anyone who seized the opportunity and managed to brand their specific fidget spinner also saw an increase in specific searches for their brand.
Amazon keyword types warrants its own article, but generally speaking, unlike Google, even short-tail keywords with large search volumes carry real potential. To continue the example above: “fidget spinner” enjoyed a high search volume both on Google and Amazon; however a person searching for it on Google might just be curious to see what it’s all about, while a person searching on Amazon is most likely looking to buy one. Or at the very least, the person on Amazon is in a window-shopping mode, which is a step closer to a sale then just Googling it. “White fidget spinners” narrows the search further, and “Jack’s Amazing Fidget Spinners” is already a high-value specific brand search (a made-up brand for the sake of example. We don’t want to advertise any specific fidget spinners, since we think you’ve all had enough of them by now).
So, how do you see an Amazon keyword search volume? Same as with Google and Bing – simply add your Amazon term for tracking as you normally would, and the search volume will display under the “global” column alongside that product’s rank in their search index:
Since you can track all local Amazon sites with Pro Rank Tracker (such as Amazon.fr, Amazon.au, etc.), you can also view the local search volume of those localized Amazon sites. So, tracking a keyword on Amazon.co.uk will show you the search volume of that keyword on Amazon.co.uk.
Since Amazon doesn’t release the actual search volume for keywords, we estimate it with our unique method using clickstream data. It won’t be an 100% exact search volume like for Google and Bing, but it’ll be pretty darn close!

YouTube monthly search volume
The number-one video search engine for videos on the planet is obviously YouTube. While it is indeed a Google company (under their Alphabet umbrella), it has its own unique ranking algorithm, different than Google’s, and a separate search index.

Anyone doing any content creation on YouTube or using it for video marketing will be glad to see their video’s search volume on YouTube alongside their unique YouTube rank.
YouTube is very prone to viral trends, so the search volume for certain terms might spike suddenly and dissipate after a short while, which is why anyone who’s riding trends should keep an eye on it.
So, to see your YouTube search volume, simply add any term you need for tracking from the same page you add Google, Bing, Amazon and every other search engine that we track. And it’ll show up in the data table under the “global column, like this:
You should know that YouTube is all mysterious in regard to their search volume, just like Amazon, so you will also be able to see an estimate that we calculate with clickstream data. This will not be 100% accurate on the number, but it will be close enough, and certainly better than nothing!
A search-volume caveat
After glorifying search volume, let’s take a step back.
It’s not the only element that you need to consider, no matter what marketing discipline you practice. Search volume, in fact, can even be deceptive to newcomers, as a large search volume doesn’t necessarily mean high value or ROI. On Google, short-tail keywords with huge volume are utterly useless in most cases and have very little value or ROI, while long-tails with seemingly small search volume can be very beneficial to promote. While it’s true that Amazon packs a bigger punch behind their short-tail keywords, the same applies to Amazon. Let’s take this chandelier, for exmple:
So, this product (which costs more than my house) may have only a handful of people searching for it, but all those L.A. Instagram celebrities that actually do search for it unironically probably have the money to get one. In this case, a small search volume can equal a great payday.
