id=\"\"><b>Consequences of a Google Penalty<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is a penalty really that bad?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Can you just ignore it if you get one?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sure you can, but we don\u2019t recommend it if you\u2019re the least bit interested in creating a steady stream of website style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019ve worked on your site\u2019s SEO, you know the value of the first 3 spots on Google.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After all your hard work, getting moved to page 2 is a major setback.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">\n<h3><b>Removal of Site from the Google SERP<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second possible consequence of a Google penalty is even worse.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google will altogether remove specific pages from the search results.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When Google removes a site from search results, they don\u2019t leave a placeholder.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: Nada.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In other words, a user could scroll to page 100 of the SERP and never find your site.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google site removal means your website visitors will have to come from direct traffic and referral traffic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Until you work on Google penalty removal, you\u2019ll get ZERO organic search traffic to your site.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ouch.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">\n<h3><b>Lower Traffic<\/b><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It ought to go without saying that either of the above consequences will result in drastically reduced traffic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lower traffic means:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fewer views<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fewer sales<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Less money<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"how-long-google-penalty-last\"><b>How Long Does a Google Penalty Last?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google SEO penalties are pretty severe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may be hoping they don\u2019t last long.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may think ignorance is bliss and instead of worrying about Google penalty removal, you\u2019ll be fine to stick your head in the sand until the penalty disappears on its own.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unfortunately, that\u2019s not how it works.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The penalty will last until your site is no longer in violation of the Google Webmaster Guidelines.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There may be exceptions to this rule, but most businesses don\u2019t recover from a Google penalty until they\u2019ve addressed their site\u2019s issue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you do address the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/proranktracker.com\/blog\/seo-website-audit-checklist\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">site\u2019s issue<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and submit a reconsideration request, the penalty should go away quickly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, it may take a while for your site to go through a Google penalty recovery period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In other words, the faster you fix the issue, the faster the penalty will go away \u2014 but don\u2019t expect change until you\u2019ve addressed the issue.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-to-know-if-site-has-penalty\"><b>How to Know If Your Site Has a Penalty<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By now, you\u2019re probably expecting to hear you need nuclear security clearance just to figure out if your site has any manual actions against it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luckily, it\u2019s not that hard to figure out if there are penalties against your site if you\u2019re vigilant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are 2 easy ways to know when something\u2019s up with your site\u2019s rankings.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>1. News and Discover: Manipulated Media<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re getting the manipulated media penalty, it means Google has decided that your content doesn\u2019t accurately reflect current events.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>False news won\u2019t get shown on Google News or Discover.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, it\u2019s more involved than that.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also falling under this category are the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">News representing things that did not verifiably take place<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">News that may cause harm to individuals or groups<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">News that might undermine trust or participation in electoral or civic processes<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><b>How to Fix It<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are a few options for getting rid of the misleading media penalty.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remove the content that was flagged as misleading.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you intended to satirize or parody, make sure that\u2019s made clear.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identify media manipulation to your audience.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you\u2019ve done at least 1 of these steps (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it certainly won\u2019t hurt to do all 3<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), make a reconsideration request in the Search Console.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>6. News and Discover: Medical Content<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Medical content being posted by non-medical professionals can seriously harm public health, so Google no longer allows medical content on News and Discover.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Medical content is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/webmasters\/answer\/9044175?hl=en&amp;visit_id=637602715300272559-3414076357&amp;rd=2#zippy=%2Cnews-and-discover-policy-violations%2Cnews-and-discover-policy-violation-medical-content\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">defined<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as content that aims to provide \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are dedicated sites on the internet providing medical content and news, so if that isn\u2019t your site\u2019s specialty, we recommend staying away from it.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>How to Fix It<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Google\u2019s manual actions report, the only way to get rid of the medical content penalty is to entirely remove all medical content.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identify anything on your website that could be classified as medical content \u2014 especially anything that runs contradictory to scientific and evidence-based medicine \u2014 and remove it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After removing medical content, submit a reconsideration request.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>7. Discover: Misleading Content<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Misleading content is designed to attract viewers by promising a story, but then it doesn\u2019t include the promised story.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s what we\u2019d normally call \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">clickbait<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d on steroids when the headline doesn\u2019t relate to the content at all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is the good ole \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bait and switch<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d of Google Discover.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>How to Fix It<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The only way to get rid of the misleading content penalty is to modify or remove it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use the URL provided by Google on the penalty in the Search Console to find the content that\u2019s been flagged as misleading.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When none of your content is misleading, create a reconsideration request.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the future, we\u2019d encourage only creating directly relevant headlines or titles \u2014\u00a0 misleading titles aren\u2019t a sustainable long term strategy anyway.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>8. News and Discover: Sexually Explicit Content<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sexually explicit material penalty is similar to the adult-themed content penalty, but targeted to imagery and videos that are \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">primarily intended to cause sexual arousal.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whereas the adult-themed content penalty was aimed at nudity and sexual material in general, this penalty is leveraged against sexually explicit videos and images.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your site contains content that\u2019s been flagged as sexually explicit, it&#8217;ll no longer appear in Google News or Discover.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>How to Fix It<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you want to appear on News and Discover, all of the sexually explicit content must be removed from your website.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As you are removing sexually explicit material, double-check user-submitted material, as there may be material you\u2019re unaware of on your site.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once all of the material has been removed, submit a reconsideration request.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>9.
